In memory of Chris Andersen

1950-2017

Chris Andersen passed away last Friday, October 20 2017, aged only 67. His loss leaves the Wellington art community shocked and deeply saddened.

Chris Andersen has always been interested in drawing and painting since he can remember. After graduating from the School of Design in Wellington, he entered the advertising industry and worked as an art director for agencies in both Wellington (Carlton Carruthers, Colenso) and Auckland (McCann Erickson, Dimension).

After returning to Wellington from Auckland in 1984 he attended many painting workshops tutored by local and international artists including Shirley Sutton, Jacky Pearson, Joseph Zbukvic, Alvaro Castagnet and Robyn Collier.

Chris painted in oils, acrylics, pastels, watercolour and mixed media. His subjects include floral, landscapes, marine, portraits, people and still-life.

Chris had a kind and caring nature, which made him ideal to take the Wellington Art Club painting and life drawing classesthat he ran for quite a few years.

He has exhibited at Kiwi Art House, Rita Angus Gallery, Wellington Art Club Studio and Gallery Cafes. He also sold his work both locally and internationally. He was a member of Watercolour New Zealand, Wellington Art Club Studio and Gallery, The Portrait Gallery and the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts.

RIP Chris, condolences to Chriss family .
