TERMS & CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

Please read these conditions carefully

ELIGIBLE ARTWORK
  • Entry is open to all members of Watercolour New Zealand.
  • The theme is open.
  • Limit per artist: 3 Large Paintings maximum size 100 cm x 100 cm, including the frame and 2 Small Paintings maximum size 28 cm x 25 cm, can be landscape or portrait orientation, including the frame.
  • No metal frames will be accepted.
  • No Diptychs or Triptychs will be accepted.
  • Work must be original and not infringe copyright. Reproductions, art class work including online tutorials, will not be accepted.
  • Work will not be eligible for selection if presentation conditions are not met.
  • All works must be for sale.
  • Artists are encouraged to submit new work not previously exhibited.

Please note:
Watercolour is primarily a transparent medium painted on paper. However, other water-based media such as gouache and acrylic paint are acceptable, provided they are used with watercolour technique on paper. Works using impasto or other oil colour techniques fall outside this definition. Mixed media works if primarily watercolour but also using ink, pencil, pastel, crayon are acceptable.

Fill out the form online and submit a digital photo of each painting.

  • There is a non-refundable entry fee of $20 per large painting and $15 per small painting.
  • Juniors (10 to 18 years) do not pay an entry fee.

NOTIFICATIONS OF SELECTED and UNSELECTED WORKS
Artists will be notified by email on 18 August. The decision of selectors will be final, no correspondence will be entered into.
  • Photos must be of publishable quality (minimum 1MB) JPG
  • Each photo file name must be in this format: Your name Title W 70 x H 60 (artist name title size). Measure the outside of the frame in centimetres

  • Your images may be used for advertising and publicity on the WNZ Website and social media.

PRESENTATION
Your work is to be framed to a professional standard, as follows:
  • White, off-white, or cream mats should be used.
  • All paintings must have a mat or spacer separating the watercolour from the glass.
  • Paintings must have D rings and hanging cord.
  • SWING TAG AND LABEL: Attach these stating the artist’s name, the title of work and the price (including GST) on both the label and the tag.
  • Tie the tag to a cord with 10 cm of hanging length; tape the end of the cord to the back of the frame at top mid-point. This will allow it to hang over to the front for cataloguing and then be tucked behind without showing.
  • Label the back of each painting with artist name and title.

IF YOUR PAINTING(S) IS/ARE SELECTED:
We need an artist's profile by 30 August.
  • Please send as an email attachment to info@watercolournewzealand.nz Subject line: Artist Profile.
  • Your Artist Profile is an up-to-date statement about yourself as an artist and viewable in a folder at the exhibition. Your profile should fit on one A4 page and send word.doc. Include your name and contact details for prospective buyers. Describe your art experience, training, qualifications, exhibition history, artistic motivation and include a photograph of yourself and/or a painting.

COMMISSION
  • Commission will be 30% of the selling price.
  • Commission is due on exhibited works if sold after the exhibition and within 14 days of the close.
  • A voluntary commission of 10% on works commissioned as a result of the exhibition, would be appreciated to help cover exhibition marketing expenses.

Send your paintings by courier or personal delivery, as follows:

Delivery by courier: before or on Monday 6 October to Percy Thompson Gallery Prospero Place 56 Miranda Street, Stratford 4332. We will supply an Artist Pack if your work is selected with all instructions for packaging and labels.

Delivery in person: Monday 6 October 10am – 12pm.

INSURANCE
  • Insurance of art works while in transit to and from the venue and during the exhibition is the responsibility of the artist.
  • The exhibition organisers will take all reasonable care but Watercolour New Zealand will not be liable for any damage or loss of artwork during installation, display and de-installation of the exhibition.

COLLECTION DAY
Local artist collection Sunday 16 November 3 -5 pm Percy Thompson Gallery, Prospero Place, 56 Miranda Street, Stratford 4332.

Paintings not collected by 7 pm will be couriered back to the artist with packaging & courier fee of $80 payable by the artist. Buyer collection of paintings: Sunday 16 November 3-5pm.

CHECKLIST
  • Entries open 1 July with online form on website
  • Entries close 8 August
  • Pay the entry fee by VISA, PAYPAL or direct credit
  • Notification of selection 18 August
  • Frame and put a label on the back of each painting
  • Attach a swing tag on a cord to back of painting at mid-top
  • Email Artist Profile 30 August to info@watercolournewzealand.nz
  • Arrange your own insurance if you require it.
  • Courier paintings to be delivered by Monday 6 October
  • Delivery by local artists: Monday 6 October 10am – 12pm
  • Collect unsold paintings Sunday 16 November 3-5 pm
